Centre for Rural Cultural, Industrial & Agricultural Learning (CRUCIAL) Africa, is an Indigenous-led think-and-do tank rooted in the Omo-Turkana Basin, and other rural communities in East Africa. We exist to empower underserved Indigenous communities- pastoralists, fisherfolk, women, youth, and persons with disabilities-by placing their knowledge, rights, and aspirations at the center of research, innovation, and locally grounded programming. Named for the basin’s critical crossroads of culture, ecology, and survival, CRUCIAL moves beyond conventional development: we do not speak for communities; we equip them with the tools, evidence, and networks to lead. Our name also reflects our belief that rural learning-ancestral and new-is the most urgent investment this region can make.
CRUCIAL works using the Quadra Helix Model of partnering with Universities and Civil Society Organisations, the Governments of Kenya, Uganda & Ethiopia through the government Ministries, County/ Local governments, and government agencies , to design interventions to solve problems in different communities. CRUCIAL- learning, leading, and lasting.”
